These reference values must be 205 treated specially in the XML encoding, using the VALUE.REFERENCE 206 tag structure. 207 208 Pegasus had been passing reference values simply as String values. 209 For example, EnumerateInstanceNames returned KEYVALUEs of string 210 type rather than VALUE.REFERENCEs. 211 212 I've modified the XmlReader::getKeyBindingElement() and 213 CIMReference::instanceNameToXml() methods to read and write the 214 XML in the proper format. However, making that change required 215 that a CIMReference object be able to distinguish between a key 216 of String type and a key of reference type. 217 218 I've modified the String format of CIMReferences slightly to 219 allow efficient processing of references whose keys are also of 220 reference type. The "official" form uses the same encoding for 221 key values of String type and of reference type, and so it 222 would be necessary to retrieve the class definition and look up 223 kumpf 1.49.2.39 the types of the key properties to determine how to treat the 224 key values. This is clearly too inefficient for internal 225 transformations between CIMReferences and String values. 226 227 The workaround is to encode a 'R' at the beginning of the value 228 for a key of reference type (before the opening '"'). This allows 229 the parser to know a priori whether the key is of String or 230 reference type. 231 232 In this example: 233 234 MyClass.Key1="StringValue",Key2=R"RefClass.KeyA="StringA",KeyB=10" 235 236 Property Key1 of class MyClass is of String type, and so it gets 237 the usual encoding. Key2 is a reference property, so the extra 'R' 238 is inserted before its encoded value. Note that this algorithm is 239 recursive, such that RefClass could include KeyC of reference type, 240 which would also get encoded with the 'R' notation. 241 242 The toString() method inserts the 'R' to provide symmetry. A new 243 KeyBinding type (REFERENCE) has been defined to denote keys in a 244 kumpf 1.49.2.39 CIMReference that are of reference type. This KeyBinding type must 245 be used appropriately for CIMReference::ttoString() to behave 246 correctly. 247 248 The files that have been modified to make this change are 249 CIMReference.h, CIMReference.cpp, and CIMInstanceRep.cpp. 250 251 A result of this change is that instances names in the instance 252 repository will include this extra 'R' character. Thus, you will 253 need to repopulate your repository when you download the latest 254 CIMOM version. 255 256 Note that for user-facing uses of the String encoding of instance 257 names (such as might appear in MOF for static association 258 instances or in the CGI client), this solution is non-standard and 259 therefore unacceptable. It is likely that these points will need 260 to process the more expensive operation of retrieving the class 261 definition to determine the key property types.
